Jewelry: Bolos

The flat forms of bolo ties provide Indian silversmiths with a perfect medium to demonstrate their mastery of silverwork and stonecutting. Their skills created colorful dancers, intricate geometric patterns, bold stampwork creations and a multitude of other distinctive and attractive designs. Such pieces are eagerly collected and worn by proud owners, however, and are therefore rarities on the market.

One of the nicest pieces of Leekya Deyuse's work we have seen--a bolo tie with an absolutely wonderful Zuni stone frog, c. 1940. The frog looks up at the wearer with inlaid jet eyes and a typically great Leekya smile. The line on the nose is not a crack, but instead a natural part of the stone--there are no repairs. The frog is 2 3/8" long, and the bolo is 1 1/2" wide. SOLD (BO TD/3) Inquire/Order Very finely inlaid snake dancer bolo that can be safely attributed to Zuni artist Eddie Beyuka, c. 1955. A great early piece of his, and one of the best snake dancers we have seen. 4 3/4" high. $3200 (BO JR/1) Inquire/OrderVery good channel inlay Zuni bolo in the form of a rain dancer, c. 1955. An unusual form for a Zuni piece. 3" high. $995 (BO 1029) Inquire/Order
