Awa Tsireh was the best-known painter and metalsmith from San Ildefonso from 1925 to 1955, and the subject of a recent book and exhibition at the Heard Museum. This is a great hallmarked example of Awa Tsireh’s metalsmithing mastery, made while he was at the Garden of the Gods Trading Post in Colorado Springs in the 1940s. Nice stampwork, and a lovely engraved avanyu (Pueblo water serpent) around the edge of the bowl. 8 1/8” diameter.
