Nez, Gibson (hallmarked)--Nez was one of the first Navajo smiths to set inlay on the edges of pieces, like he did to such great effect in this silver, coral, jet and shell piece on a silver bead chain. Pendant measures 1 1/2" x 2 1/2", chain is 25 3/4" long.
From simple, hand-drilled turquoise beads to elaborate silver squash blossoms, nothing represents the culture of the Southwest Indians like their necklaces. Men and women alike counted their necklaces as their most treasured possessions. The necklaces here represent the best of these pieces, from a time when a person's wealth was displayed in their personal adornment.
